Each massage is tailored to the individual needs of the client so oftentimes it is found that a combination of techniques is needed. Feel free to discuss the different styles of massage with your therapist to see which one is best for you.
Swedish Relaxation
Swedish massage is the most popular style in Western culture. It uses a firm but gentle pressure and long flowing strokes to improve the circulation, ease muscle aches and tension, and improve flexibility. You can expect a serene massage with the best combination of relaxing the body and centering the mind. Unwind and enjoy!
Trigger Point
Trigger point massage, also known as neuromuscular therapy, works on finding those “knots” in the muscle and connective tissue. They are found in over worked and overly tightened muscles and form over time. The pain associated with trigger points is from a buildup of toxins in the muscle fiber. Trigger point techniques break up the “knots” and flush out the toxins to lengthen those fibers and increase blood flow to the muscle tissue. Do you suffer from headaches, stiff neck or a frozen shoulder? This technique will reduce the pain associated with poor posture or months of accumulated stress that is trapped in the body.
Myofascial Release
Myofascial release is used to unbind the tightness in the fascia, or connective tissue, which surrounds our muscles. This connective tissue is what holds our muscular system and skeletal structures together. Injuries, stress, trauma, and poor posture can cause restriction to fascia which causes pain and reduced range of motion. Myofascial release techniques are generally firm sustained pressure aimed at stretching out the fascia to release the restrictions. The goal is to reduce the pain and restore the proper range of motion for the client. If you have had dull to moderate pain in your shoulders or low back give this style a try.
Deep Tissue
Deep tissue is more of a “buzz word” that generally describes a muscle therapy that targets a certain area to give relief to a specific problem or complaint. Often times the therapist will combine trigger point, myofascial release and stretching to address that one problem area. Deep tissue is a very firm pressure that may be a slightly uncomfortable during the session, but should never actually hurt. Massage should always be with the tolerance of the client. The common idea that “the deeper the better” or “no pain, no gain” is actually false. Communicate openly with your therapist about pressure for this style.
Sports Massage
Sports massage is designed to help athletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, or function well during training. Of course you don’t have to be a professional athlete or competing in the Olympics in order to get a benefit from sports massage. This style of massage uses a combination of Swedish techniques and stretching to target strains and sprains and enhance performance for anyone that lives an active lifestyle. Do you have an old foot ball injury, or need to improve your golf game? This will help!
Hot Stone Massage
Hot stone massage is a unique variation of massage therapy that is very soothing and pampering. Smooth heated basalt stones that hold the heat for a considerable time are used as a tool during the massage. The heat warms and relaxes the muscles, which allows the therapist to apply deeper pressure, if desired. The warmth of the hot stones improves circulation and calms the nervous system. Hot stone massage also has an element that will balance the client's energy leave you feeling completely refreshed. Try the Hot Stone Massage and experience the ultimate in relaxation!
